A Message From the SBISD Superintendent – Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear SBISD Families and Community Members,

As we face an unprecedented time for our school district and the world around us due to impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), I am so grateful for the extreme levels of professionalism, dedication and commitment to children our teachers, leaders and staff members have continued to show every day.
I also am especially grateful to you – our students, parents, families, partners and community members. Your patience, understanding, and kind words over these past weeks have meant so much to us as we face uncharted territory and circumstances that change daily, if not hourly. You all have proven once again why there is no place like Spring Branch and just why our district and community are so special.
As you know, we had intended to be open for a regular school day today. However, when HISD announced their plan to close, both we in SBISD and our colleagues in Alief ISD, knew the staffing implications of their announcement would necessitate that we close as well. We are three of the only districts in the area not currently on spring break. Thank you for understanding as we had to make a quick and decisive change in our plans.
Our senior leadership team will continue to meet regularly next week and to monitor the latest developments in this global health crisis.
At this time, no decision has been made regarding the week after spring break.
Additionally, please know our academics team has been hard at work the past few weeks on our plan for children to continue learning should the district need to stay closed for an extended period of time.
We will keep in touch with you and with district leaders by email and call out if and as any new developments unfold. I also recommend that you follow us @SBISD on social media and the district website where we will continue to post our messages related to COVID-19.
While I’m sure many of your spring break plans have been turned upside down because of the situation in which we find ourselves, I wish each of you a restful, safe and healthy break.

Thanks again for everything.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

District School Closure Message

Parents,

Please see Spring Branch school closure message below:

Dear SBISD Families,
Spring Branch ISD will be closed Friday, March 13, 2020.
SBISD has made this decision in alignment with the other two area school districts (HISD and Alief ISD) who, like us, are not currently on spring break.
All district-related activities are cancelled, including district and state UIL activities. (Read UIL press release here.)
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scheduled for this Saturday, March 14, is cancelled.
SBISD staff should look for additional information forthcoming from your supervisor regarding expectations for Friday, March 13.

Reminders:
Families, please help us communicate with you!
Review, and update if necessary, your contact information in Skyward Family Access.
Here’s how: Skyward Family Access is a password-protected site that provides both parents and students access to course grades, homework, attendance, and other data. Review your information at this link.
We will continue to provide updates and communicate with you over spring break as additional information may become available.
As always, please follow us @SBISD on social media and monitor updates on the district website at www.springbranchisd.com .
